Louisiana's Old State Capitol educates the public on Louisiana's rich history and the democratic process through exhibits, programming and the arts. The museum is dedicated to inspiring engaged citizenship, advancing the collection and preserving this National Historic Landmark. Prominently located in downtown Baton Rouge, we are a free museum open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Louisiana's Old State Capitol is honoring the numerous political and social achievements of African Americans to our great state. Throughout this month we will feature the well-known, and the unknown, the places and subjects that have helped shaped Louisiana. It's important to remember that Black History is more than just Martin Luther King and slavery and it certainly cannot be reduced to just one month. It is our sincere hope that we inspire and encourage our visitors to participate and celebrate these contributions with us everyday.
