A look back at some of the infamous gubernatorial candidates
The colorful candidates who have campaigned for the state’s highest office are the focus of the Old State Capitol’s newest exhibit, “Born to Run: Louisiana’s Almost Governors.” From veterans to a KKK wizard to a handful of women, the exhibit gives guests the chance to look back at some of the more interesting people who ran unsuccessfully for governor. Many of these candidates spent their careers in public service and other offices. While some candidates were perennial losers, others had significant influence on the race and gave the eventual winners a run for their money. The exhibit features memorabilia ranging from t-shirts to bumper stickers and posters. It will be on display from March 19 to June 22. A series of events focused on past gubernatorial candidates will be announced at later dates.
