“Fitz!” a documentary detailing the life and legacy of Jimmy Fitzmorris will be shown at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 2at Louisiana’s Old State Capitol. The former lieutenant governor will be on hand to answer questions after the film.

Fitzmorris began his political career in 1954 when he was elected to the New Orleans City Council. He was elected lieutenant governor in 1971. During his two terms in that office, he made building tourism and economic development the focus of the state’s second highest office. Fitzmorris ran for governor in 1979 but missed the run-off. Following his political career, he dedicated his life to public service by being active in numerous non-profit organizations

The screening is held in conjunction with the exhibition, Born to Run: Louisiana’s Almost Governors, which tells the stories of former gubernatorial candidates who ran for the state’s highest office and lost.
