Don Wright Art
October 6 - November 6
Rarely exhibited until now, Louisiana native Don Wight left behind a large body of artwork before his passing in 2007. Louisiana’s Old State Capitol will display some of Wright’s artwork including his drawings and sculptures for an exhibit beginning October 6th and running through November 6, 2018.Wright’s subjects range from swamps to nudes to French Quarter courtyards to countryside views. Certain motifs like the rooster, the mailbox and the “moody shack” appeared often in his artwork. Although he is most well-known for his paintings, sculptures would eventually become his favorite medium.Wright earned his Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Louisiana University and his Master of Fine Arts from the Pratt Institute of New York with an emphasis in painting, drawing and sculpture. He would eventually return to Louisiana where he taught art at Southeastern.
Janice DeLerno will be giving a gallery talk on Tuesday, October 30th at 5:30 P.M. followed by a wine and cheese reception.
